MILLIONS!

There are millions of orphans in our world. That's millions of innocent children with no one committed to loving and teaching them as they grow. Far too many children aging out of their orphanages each year and expected to fend for themselves with no support and a great deal of stigma against their orphan status. There are many children with health issues who do not receive the medical care they need to survive or thrive. We believe that God, who offers to love and adopt each of us and meet our every need, longs for us to go and do the same. There are many hurting people in this world and many ways to help and we certainly don't expect that every person will pursue adoption. We do hope that more will.

A Fresh Beginning

Here's a quote I read in my morning bible time yesterday.  I thought it tied in well with our blog title.

"And now you're here -
the light is shining where the darkness used to be -
and all the world is a different place...
...and every single day a fresh beginning."

From The Song of Simeon

Our Jesus:  light giver, life giver!

I want to share a link with you to a wonderful organization that advocates for children with special needs, helping their families to find them.  They profile children from many countries who have various needs and are all ages.   Have a look!

Prayer

As we partner with God on this journey, we realize the need to hold it all with open hands. This is not easy.  I find myself trying to control, as if I had any possible control of the outcome.  It's humorous really but my heart gets involved and I want everything to go the way I think it should.  All this to say, "We need prayer."  Would you pray for us, for the process, for government officials who approve (or not), who get to our paperwork in a timely manner (or not), for our hearts to be in the right place, for the protection of a little girl who waits?  We would really, really appreciate anyone who wants to join us in this journey by bringing all of this before our gracious Father to the Fatherless.

Our Family

I have always had a desire to adopt.  My husband, not so much.  So we raised three delightful children and as we were turning 40 and only had one child left at home, my hubby says to me, "You've always had a passion for adoption.  We should pursue that before we get any older."  I think I may have been speechless.  We adopted a 5 yr. old boy from foster care and raised him for seven years with love and tears and many challenges.  At age 13, he had to leave our home and receive more specialized care than we could provide.  We miss him.  During those years we'd also adopted a 5 yr. old girl who is the young one in the above photo - the one who wants a little sister.  More recently we've become aware of the great need for homes for children around the world.  It breaks our hearts.  However, I figured there's no way we're supposed to do that.  We're almost 50, it costs too much, we've been through too much...  John didn't think it was impossible.  I said, "No way".  And God worked in my heart for 24 hours whispering "Why not?" over and over to every one of my arguments.  He had me.  And here we are.
